Jimmie Guthrie rides again
We’re currently helping Burnfoot Primary School to resource a really interesting project on Hawick Historical figures, starring Jimmie Guthrie, Hawick’s racing legend, Isobel Baillie (Hawick’s bright eyed soprano, who performed live at the Hollywood Bowl) and many, many more.
This is entirely in tune with Curriculum for Excellence’s aspirations to offer personalisation and choice in learning and to inspire young people through grass-roots studies that look at the achievements of people from their local communities.
In our work, we’ve been greatly assisted by research and practical assistance from Hawick Archaeological Society, for which we owe them a big thanks!
This is yet another example of the strengths of informal, local partnerships to support schools in delivering a Curriculum for Excellence.
We’re finding that our Hawick historical figures are as relevant today for their inspirational qualities and educational interest value as they were in their heydays!
