Are you unable to get to the Heritage Hub to consult our unique resources on the Scottish Borders? Then why not make use of our Remote Research Service?
We will research any topic relating to the heritage of the Scottish Borders – that is the four counties of Berwickshire, Peeblesshire, Roxburghshire, and Selkirkshire
In a unique initiative, we are now working jointly with the Scottish Borders Registrar Service and, as part of the research, can access on your behalf, the post-1855 birth, marriage and death certificate records held only by the Registrar. This is a great asset in that the marriage and death certificates give the names of both the mother and father and can enable you go get back a further generation with your family history.
We are offering a number of research options from a one-star to a four-star service.
The one star is ideal if you if you are at the early stage of your family history and do not have access to online records. We can search indexes to census returns, old parish records and monumental inscriptions for help with some basic family history research.
The two and three star services will cover a range of records and archives and include searches of material that is not always indexed, such as local newspapers, poor law records, school records, burgh minute books etc.
Are you looking for a comprehensive portfolio of information on your family history and the background to the lives of your ancestors? Then consider using the four-star service where we will create for you a Family History Presentation Pack – illustrated above.
Other topics in this four-star series include a Social History Presentation Pack, focussing on specific communities, and a House History Presentation Pack.
We are also happy to discuss any particular requirements you may have with regard to research e.g. the transcription of old documents.
The current charges range from £25 for the one star service to £100 for the Presentation Packs.
